Difference between graphics and painting

Painting - the art of writing canvases that most fully depict reality. When creating a work, a painter most often applies liquid paints to the surface.

First of all, the two types of art can be distinguished by the used pictorial means. In graphics, the line gains tremendous power. In nature, it does not exist by itself. But the lines drawn on the surface with a pencil or chalk can create numerous spectacular images. The stroke in the graphics is also very important. Hatching can be different in nature and arrangement of elements. In addition, in the arsenal of graphic tools there is a spot that fills a certain part of the plane, and a point.

The difference between graphics and painting is very noticeable in terms of the use of color. As such, it does not play a primary role in the graphics. The value of the image in this case lies precisely in the drawing. However, the tone of the surface, mainly paper, is carefully chosen by the craftsman. Also, the artist is not at all indifferent to which shade of the coloring material to use. Often the composition is black and white. Sometimes, for expressiveness, the author draws one or two more colors to the main one, rarely more than two.

Painting is based on the play of colors and shades. No other art can be compared with this art in terms of coloristic possibilities. By mixing colors, including different tonalities in the picture, the artist makes the image seem to be alive. The work is traditionally done on canvas with a brush and liquid paints (but other materials and surfaces can be used as well). In this case, the nature of the smear is important. Painting is more flexible than graphics. It widely uses smooth color transitions. The background in paintings is only an auxiliary component, and is often completely absent. At the same time, graphic products are distinguished by contrast, and the background in such compositions becomes a full participant.

The graphic design is generally very laconic. Every detail is significant and expressive. It should be noted that it often takes less time to create such a work than to paint a picture. Therefore, it is the graphics that are the first to respond to the events taking place in life. Up-to-date drawings, posters and cartoons are almost instantly presented to the public. And their dissemination is facilitated by the existing ability to print and replicate such works. A pictorial canvas, in turn, can be presented to viewers in the original only in a certain place.

It is possible to figure out what is the difference between graphics and painting, and paying attention to the derived concepts of "graphic" and "picturesque". So, the graphic nature of a picture painted with paints is spoken of when the work contains sharp contrasts, a meager color palette, a clear delineation of the depicted details. A graphic drawing is called pictorial if it is distinguished by a variety of colors and a certain artistic flexibility.
