Both white and red wine have their admirers. Typically, the choice of a particular variety is based on taste. However, connoisseurs of fine drinks will undoubtedly find it useful to know how white wine differs from red, other than taste and color.
Definition
White wine is called symbolically. In fact, its color can range from pale straw to brewed tea. The most transparent wines sparkling with light do not differ in high density, they have not been aged in oak barrels, their taste is light and piquant. Intense shades indicate aging in oak. These drinks have a rich texture.
The color palette of red wines is also diverse: from soft ruby to dark garnet. Over time, the coloring matter changes and the wine brightens (white wine, on the other hand, darkens). A sediment may also appear, which, however, does not impair the quality of the drink. Not only that, it is considered proof that the wine has matured long enough and boasts even more attractive characteristics.
Comparison
Initial product
For white wine, the raw material is grapes of any color (and not only white, contrary to misconceptions), since the juice of the pulp of the berries is colorless in most cases. The exception is some varieties that initially contain coloring agents in the juice.
To obtain red wine, take dark grapes. In the skins of its berries, there are pigments that give the final product its characteristic color.
Manufacturing technology
The difference between white wine and red wine lies in the peculiarities of the production process itself. So, when making white wine, it is important to minimize the contact of the wort with the coloring skin, so it is removed as soon as possible. Temperature conditions are more closely controlled during fermentation. Aging is not always used for white wines.
Fermentation of red wine is a longer process. The peel and bones are necessarily involved in fermentation. These components color the product and fill it with a tart flavor. There are no red "young" wines, good aging is a necessary condition for obtaining a quality drink.
Contents
It is believed that of the two wines, red is the healthier one. It is the bones and peel that saturate the drink with substances that can prevent and even treat anemia, and reduce the risk of heart and vascular problems. Among other things, by sipping red wine, you can feel the astringent effect in your mouth, which is explained by the content of tannins in the product. There are no such components in white wine.
Drinking
Of course, it is recommended to enjoy any of the drinks at your discretion, but it would be superfluous to say a few words about the existing traditions. So what's the difference between white and red wine? White wine is especially pleasant to drink in summer, since it is usually served chilled. Lean fish, seafood, fruits, cheese go well with it.
Red wine will warm you well in the cold season. And an excellent appetizer, emphasizing its bright taste and aroma, will serve as hot meat dishes, spicy pizza, cheese.
